Title: Nossahoth
Post by: Ezra on May 29, 2007, 08:53:25 AM
What nossah does the Bene Israel community use in their siddurim? I know that the Bene Israel had contact with the community in Yemen, so did that influence the nossah in the siddurim?

Thanks

Ezra,
The Nusach used is primarily Cochini but there is an influence of Yemenite as most of the Chazans in the early days in the Bene Israel synagogues were either from Cochin or from the Yemen.

Daniel,

So what are some of the differences between the nossah Cochini and others? What makes it uniquely Cochini?

Thanks

Best,
Ezra
